Let The Driver Drive
I had to laugh at myself this morning. There I was, sitting in traffic, mentally reprogramming every traffic light and redesigning the entire road system. Because obviously, I know better than the city planners, right?
And then it hit me – I do this same thing with God.
"Hey God, I know you're in charge, but have you considered my carefully crafted 5-year plan? I even made a PowerPoint!" I'm technically letting God lead, but I'm constantly reaching over His shoulders from the back seat: "Turn here! No, there! Can we go faster? Maybe we should take a different route!"
It's exhausting, really. All this backseat driving of my own life. The constant planning, controlling, suggesting "better" ways to run the universe. No wonder I end up stressed and frustrated.
Here's what I'm learning: my job isn't to navigate. My job is to trust the Driver who can see the entire road – past, present, and future. He knows the destination, understands the timing, and yes, even knows why we're sitting in this particular traffic jam right now.
Today, I'm choosing to sit back, enjoy the ride, and let the Driver drive. Maybe you need to do the same? Take your hands off the wheel. Stop trying to navigate from the back seat. The One who designed the road knows exactly where He's taking you.
Besides, the view is much better when you're not trying to drive from the back seat.
