Running on Empty: Signs Your Soul Needs Refueling
Ever notice how your phone gives you that helpful "20% battery remaining" warning? Would be nice if our souls came with the same alert system, wouldn't it?
Here's the truth: most of us are walking around spiritually and emotionally depleted without even realizing it. We've normalized exhaustion. We've convinced ourselves that running on fumes is just "adult life."
But Jesus wasn't mincing words when He said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened." He wasn't talking about needing a nap. He was addressing soul-level emptiness.
How do you know your soul tank is near empty? The signs are subtler than you think:
- When small inconveniences feel like major catastrophes
- When you can't remember the last time you laughed—really laughed
- When everyone around you seems impossibly irritating
- When you're constantly seeking escape through screens, shopping, or substances
- When you find yourself saying, "I just can't care about one more thing"
The world's solution? "Self-care." Take a bath. Buy something nice. Binge a show. And look, I'm not against any of these things. But let's be honest—they're like putting a Band-Aid on a broken leg.
Jesus offers something radically different: "I will give you rest for your souls." Not temporary relief. Not a distraction. But actual restoration.
So before you reach for your phone to numb out tonight, consider this: What if your soul's "low battery mode" is actually an invitation? An invitation to come to the only One who can truly refuel what's been drained.
Your depleted soul isn't a weakness. It's a compass pointing you back to your Source.
